Top 5 Reasons to Use AdWords for Your Business

Let's start slow... what is Google AdWords?

Google Adwords is Google's advertising network in which advertisers will bid on keywords that relates to their business, services or products, in order for their advertisement to appear in Google's search results, YouTube, Gmail, display network or search partners.

1. AdWords is Measurable

Unlike traditional advertising like TV or print, AdWords is easily measurable. With plenty of different metrics to evaluate your campaigns, you can quickly gauge what needs improving and make those changes fast.

In addition, AdWords allows you great flexibility in customizing your ads on the fly with ad extensions, different keyword match types and more importantly, the ability to narrow your target audience.

Imagine this:

You're a new business owner and you're approached by a salesman pitching you the idea of getting a print ad in their magazine. You agree to their price, something in the range of $2500. A few weeks later, you're happy to see your business advertised in that magazine, but you also notice a few things are wrong:

  1. You're not getting any more leads than usual
  2. You have no indicator of people's reaction or engagement with your ad
  3. You even noticed an error with your offer on the page!

With AdWords, all of these issues can have been addressed on the fly, without your whole budget being thrown out the window at once. A major advantage.

2. AdWords are More Engaging

You've probably noticed that the number of ads on the web have increased in the past few years. Longer ads on YouTube (often those you can't skip), ads in Gmail based, visual ads in the right column of websites, and more.

Because clicks on ads running on Google's networks are their primary source of revenue, Google is constantly working to offer new ways to advertise. Online shoppers can know see product placement right in the ad, they can interact with ads that expand after clicking or even have their latest app installed, straight from a Google Search.

3. AdWords Makes it Faster for You to Reach the Top

Although every company should have a great SEO (Search Engine Optimization) strategy in place, a drawback is that it can take months, or even years, before you see any concrete results.

Thanks to AdWords, once your campaigns go live, your ads will appear immediately and you'll be able to start measuring effectiveness.

4. Adwords Gives You Control Over Your Budget

We touched on this lightly in #1, but Adwords lets you control the maximum amount you are willing to spend per day on your campaigns and avoid going over budget. At the keyword level, it also gives you the ability to set a maximum CPC (cost-per-click) that you are willing to spend for a keyword.

Tip: If you're looking to calculate how much to set for your daily spend based on your monthly budget, just take your monthly budget and divide it by 30.4.

5. AdWords Lets You Stand Out From Your Competitors

A major advantage of using AdWords is that your company is likely to stand out in search results. If your ad is relevant, your offer is good and your CTA (call-to-action) is enticing, there's a good chance it'll be clicked on versus others in your industry. This potentially leads to more revenue for you.

What if my competitors are already using AdWords? Don't let this stop you.

With more and more advertisers using AdWords every day to reach their customers, it may be tough to compete, especially with larger companies that have more budget. But don't let this discourage you, it's better to be part of the game then sitting on the bench.

Tip: Consider tools like SpyFu or SEMrush to get that competitive edge over others.
